Canada is a country of wealth and opportunity. Each
year, tens of thousands of immigrants arrive in Canada in search of employment.
Working in Canada will give you useful experience and a safe route to permanent
residency.
Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC)
uses the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) procedure to examine job offers
and determine if hiring a foreign worker would have a detrimental effect on the
Canadian labour market.Under this program, foreign workers and employers must
go through a two-step process to receive a Canadian work permit. First, the
applicant must apply to ESDC for a Labour Market Impact Assessment, followed by
a second application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for the actual
work permit. The program uses a Labour Market Impact Assessment to decide about
work permit approval and includes very detailed advertising and recruiting
requirements. A LMIA is a document that shows whether hiring
the foreign worker will have a positive or neutral effect on the Canadian
labour market. The number of Canadians who applied for the position, the number
of Canadians who were interviewed, and comprehensive justifications for why the
Canadian workers considered were not hired are just a few of the details that
employers will be required to provide about the position for which they want to
hire a foreign worker. Employers in Canada should be aware of the
requirements, wages, advertisement efforts, exceptions to the advertising
requirements, and how to apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment. Offers of
employment made by Canadian employers to foreign workers through the
International Mobility Program (IMP) do not require a LMIA to be obtained. However, not all foreign nationals are eligible to apply for work permits. Before
applying to come work in Canada, it is recommended you get a full immigration
assessment.
